The sword I'm holding once belonged to King Gustav Vasa of Sweden (1496 - 1560). It was probably made in southern Germany in the 1550's and represents the height of fashion at that time. The hilt is decorated with lions' faces and finials of gilt silver. Across the cross and ricasso there's a socket of gilt silver with a mythological motif. LOA is 1088 mm (42.83") (the blade is 952 mm/37.48" long and 34 mm/1.34" wide). The weight is 1390 grams (3.06 lbs.) and the PoB is 115 mm (4.5") in front of the quillons. The sword felt well-balanced and was easy to handle, as well as very much a piece of Swedish history. LRK 13502.
