zwei2.jpg (27221 bytes)This two-handed sword is in so-called Brunswick style (LRK 16371) and forged around 1550 - 75. The stamps on the blade belong to Christopher Stantler, a smith active in Munich, Germany. The sword is easily manoeuvrable, but has a considerable wobble when swung, which might argue for it being a ceremonial weapon only. The length is 1643 mm (64.7"), with a blade measuring 964 mm (37.2") (width 42 mm/1.65"). The weight is 3500 grams (7.7 lbs.) and the PoB 50 mm (2") in front of the cross (just below my left hand). The impression I got when handling the sword belied all claims that the great two-handers were unwieldy and heavy. Quite the contrary!

Close-up of the hilt.
